About the author - Alison Ford
Alison Ford, a physiotherapist with 30 years of experience with a particular expertise in exercise therapy, put together the comprehensive Actively Ageing Program to help you stay fit and healthy into the later years.
Alison’s message is to ‘Raise the Bar’ --- to set your goals higher. Make activity an important part of your everyday life and make it fun. It is better to work on prevention than on treatment. You have to take control of your destiny and it has to start today!
Alison explains that as you age, common home chores such as reaching, lifting or gardening can become difficult if you no longer have the physical strength or flexibility. This weakness and stiffness can lead to injuries, incapacity and a loss of independence. But the good news is that to avoid this situation, all you need to do is add some structured activity into your daily life in the form of specific exercises as well as prolonged, sustained movement such as walking or swimming. Essentially, what keeps you active is ‘activity’ itself!
By committing a small amount of time everyday to some form of structured exercise, you’re investing in a ‘superannuation fund’ of health and wellbeing for a happier, healthier, independent future. You’ll feel better in every way!

The Kit
Forming the foundation of the Actively Ageing Program is Alison Ford’s comprehensive “Kit”, designed to enable the over 50s to actively age from the comfort of their own home!
The “Kit” consists of an easy-to-understand informative handbook on how to stay safe and healthy as you age; a companion workbook featuring simple step-by-step exercises offering a complete workout, plus a DVD of two home-based workouts for both the fit and ‘not-so-fit’. There is also a Working Calendar and Diet Chart for your own record keeping.

4-Week Course & Ongoing Classes
Building on the foundation of the Actively Ageing “kit”, Alison has further developed these principles and content into the 4-Week Actively Ageing & Ongoing Classes.
By attending an Actively Ageing Course you will learn how to exercise correctly and safely with a perfect posture and efficient breathing – all under the instruction and supervision of a qualified Actively Ageing Preferred Provider Physio, who will individualize the program for you!
This fun, social and thoroughly interactive course format also includes educational sessions where you will learn all sorts of things about age related health issues for the over 50s and ways to improve your current health status!
But it doesn’t end there…
Once you have completed the 4-Week Course you are eligible to join Ongoing Classes also run by your local Preferred Provider Physio.
These 35min exercise classes are fantastic opportunity for you to further develop your newly learned techniques and skills with other Actively Ageing graduates in a safe, fun & relaxed atmosphere.
